Twacks Content Writing Machine is going to give you an insight or introduction to the Wealthy Affiliates answer to word processing. Some of you may find it daunting enough just writing, so you don’t need a load of complicated mechanisms confusing you along the way.
Luckily for all of us here, Wealthy Affiliate has the answer.
What is Site Content
In Wealthy Affiliate’s own words, Site Content is ‘The Ultimate Writing Platform’ Big words but can they back it up ? I think so. One of the major factors when it comes to building your website will be adding content. For some, this will be easy and for the rest of us..not so much.
The last thing you need when it comes time to sit down and write, is a platform that is complicated with so many ‘bells and whistles’ on it that your not sure if your meant to write, translate or code… Luckily for us the guys here at WA predicted that we would need to be ‘nursed’ but were also aware that the end result had to be professional.
I’m writing this article on the Site Content Platform right now. It’s a breeze.
Writing for me is sweet release made nobler in the…hang on, I was confused. Back on track… I find writing a pleasure, not a chore. That doesn’t mean I’m good at it, just that I find the whole process enjoyable. What I don’t find enjoyable is complicated word processing tools. I am sure there are courses you can go on to learn the full ‘ins and outs’ of them. I know they are really good at what they do…so I’m not slating them…it’s just I don’t need the added distraction of ‘indents’,’line spacing’,’grids’ and the like. I just want to be able to write. Period.
When you open a ‘Word’ document or equivalent are you not overwhelmed with the amount of ‘stuff’ ? Have a look at this, this is not what you get with Site Content.
Have a word..pun intended… What on earth is going on here.? I used this kind of thing before and just ended up using ‘notepad’. I’ve gone to do something, clicked on the wrong button and the text has disappeared or it’s changed and I try to ‘undo’ and it just does whatever it wants..No, thank you.
Here’s What You Get.
I can see you’re scared. Who wouldn’t be. I’m not writing a thesis on ‘DNA Replication With An Indepth Look At Mitochondrial Disease’…. I just want to write a blog..simple. Once you’re into the Site Content menu you can choose how you want to start. A blank document or you can use one of the templates. If you use a template, it’s all laid out ready for you to get stuck in.. Here’s a snip of one.
Now that’s more like it. It even lays it out so you can follow along… Headings already in place, tells you were to put your content… You can play around with the size of the font, all three of them, bold or italic, you can even add some bullet points if you’re feeling extra adventurous.
You can even add images..very easily…and also ‘links’ to other websites or pages on your own site…again very easy. So just open up a template and start writing..like I am. Not sure how many words you’ve written ? Don’t worry, there’s a counter at the bottom of the document. It even tells you how many paragraphs and headings you’ve used. Bonus.
When you’ve blasted out your wonderful prose and hit the magical 1k of words, or above if you’re really on it, then you can click on the little ‘tick’ and it will do a grammar and spell-check for you… Once you’re done with that, you can either save or publish…and don’t worry about hitting the wrong button on your computer as the program automatically saves your work as you’re doing it. Outstanding.
As I type this I have four ‘revisions’ saved automatically and I’ve written 668 words…well now it’s 673.
Bucketful Of Content
As you start to really bang out your content, adding post after post, it can become a struggle to keep track…not with Site Content. There’s a facility to create ‘buckets’. Each one can be for anything you like… If you have more than one website, this is ideal. Or you can separate articles within a website, up to you. It makes it all very easy to find your work, published or unpublished.
The one little addition I really like is, the ‘G’… Under each and every article you write there is a ‘G’ and when Google indexes your work..the ‘G’ gets coloured in..we’ll get into ‘indexing’ at a later stage, for now it just means that Google knows your work is out there and it can be found when people look for it.
After You’re Done
Once you’re happy with your work and it is gleaming in front of you…time to hit ‘Publish’…this will then send your article or post out into the big void of internet land…and of course your website, for all to see and praise…Yay you. You will still have a copy of it on the Site Content Platform but you won’t be able to edit it from there. That’s OK though, fear not. If you think of something, after the fact, then you can still edit and update through the ‘back office’ of your website…that’s not difficult either. The whole process is designed to take the pressure off, so you can devote your time and efforts into actually creating rather than spending it on all the technical stuff.
One of the other attributes that this part of the platform has, is that it checks your entire post for ‘duplicate content’. This is an area that can cause confusion amongst those of us non-aficionados. Google and the like, don’t like it if you ‘copy’ big chunks off other websites…they like ‘unique content’…so the Site Content checks your work to make sure it is 100% yours. If you’re worried then just make sure you use your own words for everything you’re doing…don’t worry about the odd quote here and there, that’s not the issue…big slabs of content from someone else’s site might be though.
What Are You Waiting For ?
Oh, I know what it is… You want me to tell you where the ‘content creator’ button is…the one you press and the page just fills up on its own, with well written, engaging and insightful prose. Sorry, no can do. The creation side is totally up to you. At least you have one of the best tools alongside you to help. Simple, practical and all part of the package.
Worth remembering, this can be your virtual notebook as well. Whenever I have an idea for a post or an article, the easiest thing to do is open a new document, either with or without a template and start making some notes…once you’ve got them nuggets of inspiration off your chest, give it a title and save it…it will remain in the ‘Unpublished’ folder until you’re ready to continue with it. Functionality at its best.
There we have it, I’ve probably missed something…ummmm…not important, the main information you need is all there.
I look forward to reading you next post.
