I was going to come up with a witty and insightful title and then just thought I would confuse the issue, so I’m going to stick with Twack says working from home a good thing and add ‘Director Cut’ on the end because this one is special. Anyway, this way it makes more sense and you can easily find the first part without getting lost in the menus. How considerate am I ? That’s rhetorical.
If you’ve come here by chance, welcome, glad you could join me. However, to get the full benefit of this installment you may find that reading the first part will help put this in context. So follow the link below and then come back after you’ve digested. Please come back, it really is worth it. Alternatively just carry on reading here, it’s like a good novel and stands on its own.
Welcome back. On with it. The question whether working from home is a good thing is open to discussion. One of the comments I had from the first article said that it doesn’t suit everyone and can be dependent on lifestyle. No argument there. It is a personal choice and it won’t suit everyone. Saying that, I personally think it is one of the better choices. From here on in I will attempt top give you an example of why. As per my own unique view, of course. I have to add it will be done with bias but I’ll try not to lay it on too thick. At least I’m open and honest. I won’t be giving you a constant stream of comparisons, just a version of events from one standpoint. Shall we begin ?
A Better Way To Start The Day
Whether going to work or working from home the alarm clock going off is not always the best start to the day. Today, however, you can just reach across and press snooze. After another nine minutes of fading in and out of consciousness the shrill sound will once again pierce though your slumber. Guess what ? You can press snooze again. That’s right, you’ve just had an extra eighteen minutes of warmth and comfort. Still, can’t spend all morning lying in bed, time to get up. Although, maybe another few minutes would be alright. No, be strong.
A hot shower it is then, as a compromise, such tough choices. Once showered, shaved, dried off and everything else attended to, you can slip into your lounge pants and top. A quick look out of the window (for continuity purposes, we’re going with the same weather as ‘Part One’) only to find that it’s raining, hard. For a split-second you stomach turned, before you remembered that you wouldn’t be riding into work today, or any other day for that matter. No, today you will be working from home.
Breakfast That Tastes of Success
I know I should have used ‘Champions’ but I thought ‘Success’ was more fitting and has a ring of ‘Permanence’ to it. You can champion something and you can be a champion but it implies that you are only doing so on a temporary basis, plus I just wanted to add the word ‘success’ as I like it more than champion, so there.
Gliding down the stairs is a bit whimsical, so we’re going to be striding down the stairs with purpose. Not surprising though, as there is the smell of something very tasty cooking and coffee. Decaffeinated, of course, no need for caffeine to help kick start you into the day.
The daily paper is lying on the table and after greeting your partner you can pick it up and enjoy taking your time to get up to speed with what is happening in the world. How nice is it to be able to sit and enjoy your breakfast, taking your time and not having to rush and then suffering indigestion for the next few hours, well, that would happen when you actually managed to eat something.
Planning Before Fitness.
Now that you’re no longer going to a venue for work you have no need for the morning bike ride. As much as it was a chore, it was also a source of ‘keeping fit’. Now it is down to some self-discipline to keep on top of the healthy body you had no choice in having over the last few years. Still, while waiting for your breakfast to go down It would be a good time to plan you day, optimise if you will. Taking half an hour now, to prioritise, will help with efficiency and enable you to move easily between jobs without having waste time.
Now that is done it’s time for some exercise. The bike has long gone as it was no longer needed. It has been replaced with an ‘exercise bike’ well it made sense, logical, if you like. IPod set on one of your favourite ‘workout’ playlists. Sometimes you listen to uplifting music but for the most part it’s audio-books. Just another way of being more productive. You are a captive audience so you might as well listen to something that will help you. Educating oneself should never stop, we can always learn more.
Time To Knuckle Down.
Another quick shower off and it’s time to get down to some work. Being at home can often times lead to temptation. It is all to easy to turn on your laptop or PC and start watching endless YouTube videos. I ‘ll just watch this one and then I’ll start. An hour later and you’re still clicking from one to the next. Not today, or any day. The time to do that will be when you’ve accomplished everything on your list and even then, only if you haven’t something that would be more productive.
E-mails are always the first port of call. Sifting through each one to see if it needs an immediate response or can be attended to later. Sometimes it only requires a short reply but it’s best not to ignore it as the sender only knows that you have it and not why you haven’t responded. It’s just good manners. Saving the best few till last. Feedback or comments left on the websites and commission notifications. Now the comments can be dealt with later in the day, once you’ve read them thoroughly and decided upon an apt response. The commission notifications are what makes it all worthwhile and should be opened in the morning so that you feel inspired for the rest of the day.
Money While You are Sleeping
That’s right, one of the true bonuses of this life. Earning money while you sleep. Three sales, bringing in a total amount of $117 or £92 or even 104 Euros. Not bad for a nights work, didn’t even break a sweat. On top of that, there were two new referrals through one of the websites. They will go to the top of the priority list. A nice welcoming e-mail with a few links on how to get started on creating their own future. Just enough time before lunch to sketch out some ideas for upcoming posts on the websites. Where shall we go for lunch ? Decisions, decisions.
ENOUGH. You get the picture. I don’t need to spend anymore time painting the scene for you. I’ve embellished it a bit, not much. Plus, this is a ‘snapshot’ of a day in the life of, as it were. However, and this is important. The above could be you. There is absolutely no reason why you couldn’t have everything that I have just written about. There are hundreds of thousands of people, just like you and me, who are living that way. More probably and some doing even less work than I’ve described.
Don’t be fooled into thinking it happened overnight though. It doesn’t. The chances are it has taken the person in the description a few years to get to that stage. All the while they will have been continuing to work the 9-5. Using their time as wisely as they can. Staying up into the small hours, researching and writing content for their websites.
Here’s one for you. You buy a piece of land, close to the city centre, just stay with me. There’s enough room to fit fifty cars. For arguments sake, you charge 5 ‘whatevers’ a day for parking. Assuming you fill the car park every day then that’s 250 per day. You pay someone to man the car park and pay them 500 per week. Keep it open six days a week. Total revenue would be 1000 after you’ve paid wages. Sure there will be other costs to include but even the worst case scenario you could well be looking at over 500 ‘whatevers’ profit. That’s nice.
I know, it’s purely hypothetical and you can pick holes in it. The point is, you have done very little to bring that money into your bank account, or pocket if you prefer. What we haven’t included is how you were able to buy the land in the first place and again it’s not one for a debate, I am merely using of this as an example to reinforce a point.
Eyes Wide Open With Full Disclosure
The basis of this site is to promote being able to work from home. The vessel I have chosen to ride that merry path is Wealthy Affiliate. If you’ve already read some of my posts you’ll have quickly realised that I’m not giving you the usual ‘run-of-the-mill’ hype. Why would I ? You’re not daft. There are plenty of opportunities out there that will promise you a ‘better life’ and you can sign up and start earning your fortune from day one. By the way, if you do find one that actually delivers on that promise, please can you let me know. That would be very cool of you and I would be forever in your debt, metaphorically speaking, of course.
The chances are, you will not find the hidden treasure the first time you go out digging. If you are serious about creating your own online business then be prepared for some hard work. It will not happen overnight and in some instances it may take you a number of years to achieve the income you require to be able to leave your current employment. One of the most commonly trod paths is that of doing both at the same time. You still have the security and therefore no added pressure to succeed. I cannot stress how hard this is going to be especially if you are constantly looking at your commission statement and wondering why the zeros have nothing in front of them.
Not only will it be hard work but you will also find that there will be little or no support. You will, however, frequently get asked “How much have you earnt, so far ?” Obviously this is from concerned individuals who are just looking out for you. Not. Be prepared to be constantly interrupted while you work, that will be because no one else will class what you’re doing as work.
Not All Doom And Gloom
Well it’s not, all doom and gloom, that is. You may well have reached this point and decided to just carry on as you are. Who could blame you ? Why would you want to pursue a career where you will be facing hardship and ridicule ? I mean, if you think about it, what other professions can offer you the same kind of encouragement ? I can only think of a few people in history that have tried their hand, let’s see if you might know any of the following:
- Walt Disney
- Thomas Edison
The list goes on and on. All of the above faced rejection and in many cases were told to re-evaluate their chosen career paths. They all turned out alright though, didn’t they ?
So, if you’re still thinking about trying your hand at being an internet marketeer, I will not stand in your way. In fact, I will give you the opportunity.
“I only have seven places left to give away before I retire for good”
I’m kidding, ignore the above line, I was being ironic or ‘clever’ or something. You’ve surely seen that line or similar. Then the video, that takes about half an hour to watch and you’re still none the wiser as to what you’re signing up for. The price starts at ‘x’ amount and gradually goes down the further through the script you go. Then, when you’ve had enough and are about to click off the screen, another pop-up appears “DON’T GO YET” with another ludicrous discount. Sound familiar ?
I’ll stop now and move it along. In a few well-chosen places, hidden in plain view, are links to another page.
