You Should Enjoy
You’ve probably already read Episode One, as I like to call it…well you know that this is now the ‘Pilot’ for the whole series of me going into writing and stuff. So officially this is Twack”s Content Introduction. Sorted. What now ? Why am I writing the ‘Pilot’ after I’ve already published ‘Episode One’ ?
Well, basically, it’s just the way my brain works… I have an idea and just have to go with it…convention is out of the digital window. ‘Tis true I say ye.’ Look, the way I see it is, there are no rules when it comes to ‘writing’… Maybe there are guidelines and there are certain things you can do to make your content more appealing or engaging to the reader.
If,you’re spending all your time worrying about ‘how’ you should be writing..what’s the point ? Where’s the enjoyment in that ?
Before we go any further…be warned…my style and ideas about writing are not for everyone..sometimes they’re not even for me. I have two other sites and I struggle to write with ‘flow’…subject matter can dictate how you write. Still, enough of the formalities, let’s ‘Get it on’
What now ?
This is what I had in my mind when I thought about an introduction. What on earth am I going to write about. You picked a niche and have come up with a whoopingly phantasmagorical title for the domain name. You’ve set your ‘theme’ up and now it’s time to add some content…..twiddle thumbs…scratch head…waiting.
What ? Nothing ?…They told you to find a ‘niche’ for your first site but neglected to say anything about adding thousands of words of content to it?…You want to write about ‘Doughnuts’ and now you feel like one… Fear not brethren, now is not the time for tears.
First of all..and this is a bit of a cheat but worth bearing in mind…you don’t have to keep the site you’ve bought. That’s right, you can just put it on the back boiler and start afresh. Probably broken some cardinal rule right there. Don’t care. You may well be spending hundreds of hours building your site out and the last you need is that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach every time you need to add more posts. Better to bin it now, rather than in a few weeks or even months…
That would be sad.
We’ll stick with the whole ‘niche’ thingy for the moment. Reason is, again important, at this early stage you’re going to need to be honest with yourself in regard to what you want your site to be. This will affect how you write. I mean, it doesn’t have to. Not sure how it would work if your topic is about something really serious and you’re writing like you’re with your mates after a few drinks on a Saturday night. I suppose it could work but maybe not just yet.
I have a couple of other sites with a few still to be worked on and I haven’t been able to write on those like I can here. Like I said before…you have to find the right style for you and for your niche.
Where was I ? Short and sweet, oh and you’ll have excuse my use of cliches..sometimes they’re better than words..they just hit the nail on the head, so to speak when trying to get a point across. Ah yes, your site. What kind of site is it going to be… Hobby/interest, passion or money making. I’m sure there are even more categories out there but those I would think are right up there…and don’t get me wrong, you can make money on all three. It will affect how you want to write.
You’ve Made Your Bed.
Anyway…niches…football, golf, fishing, cooking…they’re great but you’re in the big leagues going with something that broad. The way I see it is you can have a ‘narrower’ view and still have the benefits of using the bigger stuff for content… Simply, if you chose fishing in frozen waters as your niche, then although still biggish, you can use ‘fishing’ in general for content..as and when you want. That make sense ?…The narrower you go, the less competition there is on the web for those all important ‘rankings’ on the search pages. Naked Fishing In The Antarctic Dot Com. There you go, you can have that one for free…knock yourself out.
The point is, you could find loads to scrawl about if that particular niche is your hobby or pastime and when you get stuck you can move into the more general arena, it’s still connected…you’ll see how connected subject matter can be in forthcoming posts. It needs to be readable. That’s it. If,you write like you speak then coolio. Your friends don’t stop you mid sentence and correct you..do they ?
Write Until It Drops Off
I was getting bored so I thought I would spice it up with a provocative title for this section. Not only that, how long does an ‘intro’ have to be, this one is going on for so long. I could have just said, hey there, this whole category is about writing, thanks. Every post from here on in will have something to do with litering…literarying…not even a real word but that doesn’t matter… I mean, what you write should make sense and be relatively grammatically correct…. I say relatively, because at the end of the day..cliche..it’s your content and you can choose how to get it out there. It needs to be readable. That’s it. If,you write like you speak then coolio. Your friends don’t stop you mid sentence and correct you..do they ?
Write, write, write and write some more. It need not be about anything to do with your blog or site. The more you do it the better and easier it becomes. No really, it does. Have a look at the next post in this section…well it’s the only other post…for now… I asked one of the members of Wealthy Affiliate to throw me a random word for subject matter… Archery…Boom have it. Still wrote over 1k of words. You can talk, you can write.
Just Get Stuck In.
Finally, the end is nigh, kiss me Hardy… You can do this, it really isn’t rocket science but you could write about rocket science…not sure if it would be interesting. Where would you start..If,you were stuck you could say “Houston, we have a problem”… Did say that for real ?…did Tom Hanks say it in that Apollo film? Tom Hanks has written a book and by all accounts it’s pretty darn good. I’m not sure but it probably rubs a few up the wrong way. Well, here’s this incredible actor, tires writing a book and it becomes a best-seller…whoops. Love it. Hey that’s how easy it is.
I can try to give you tips but they’re only going to be what I do. You’re just going to have to try it out and see what happens…what’s the worst that can happen ? Right I’m off to read my book, not one I’ve written, one I’ve been waiting for ages for it to come out.
As always, these are just my thoughts, rightly or wrongly.
